§ 8-38. Vaccination required.

  • (a)

    The owner, custodian, or harborer of each dog or cat over four months of age, kept, maintained, or harbored in any area of the city is required to maintain a current rabies vaccination on such dog or cat.

    (b)

    It shall be the duty of all persons owning or having custody of any dog or cat over four months of age brought into the city from outside the city to have such dog or cat vaccinated within 14 days from the date of entry; provided that when the owner or person having custody of the dog or cat produces evidence satisfactory to the health department through its designee that such dog or cat has a current vaccination, as prescribed by this chapter, such dog or cat will not be required to be vaccinated again until the expiration date of the current vaccination.

    (c)

    Only a licensed veterinarian shall be entitled in connection with his or her practice, on the request of any owner of a dog, cat, or other animal, to vaccinate such dog, cat, or other animal against rabies with a vaccine, as set forth in the definition of vaccinate in section 8-1; provided that at the time of vaccination he or she:

    (1)

    Furnishes two copies of the vaccination certificate to the owner;

    (2)

    Forwards one copy to the Fulton County Animal Control Office; and

    (3)

    Maintains one copy for his or her files.
